Space Perspective begins production of balloon-powered space capsule

Space Perspective, a luxury space travel company, has unveiled the design of the patent-pending Spaceship Neptune capsule, currently in production at the company’s campus near its operations center at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center , in Florida.

Space Perspective, which claims to have developed the only carbon-neutral way to travel in space, said it has performed thousands of virtual flight tests, simulations and analyzes with technology from Siemens Digital Industries and AWS. The company’s spacecraft features a spherical exterior to deliver 360-degree panoramic views through what it called the patented largest windows ever taken at the edge of space. The exclusive splash cone ensures that the Neptune spacecraft’s sea landing is smooth and safe. A The Space Perspective crew will pick up the passengers, the capsule and the SpaceBalloon by boat.

The company announced that it would start commercial flights from the end of 2024 for its pressurized and air-conditioned capsule, powered by a patented SpaceBalloon. The six-hour round trip can accommodate anyone who can board a plane, the company said.

“Centuries of balloon and parachute operation and development demonstrate that always flying the balloon from launch to landing, with traditional parachutes as a back-up backup system, is by far the simplest, most secure and most robust. Our proprietary flight system means the capsule and SpaceBalloon™ always stay connected, and take-off and landing conditions are always in our control. The team came together to create a system incredibly rugged, safe, incredibly stylish and luxurious for the Neptune spacecraft Simplicity and automation are the keys to safety,” said Taber MacCallum, Founder, Co-CEO and CTO of Space Perspective.

Manufacturing of the Neptune spacecraft has already begun with 100,000 square feet of facilities, 300,000 square feet of dedicated test area and an operations center at NASA’s KSC Shuttle Landing Facility. With nearly 900 tickets sold to date and the purchase of entire capsules for eight commercial flights, it is scheduled to begin in late 2024. Space Perspective is currently taking bookings for 2025 and beyond. Tickets cost $125,000 per person, and reservations are made with a fully refundable deposit from $1,000 (customers can also book and pay online via crypto).
